Functionality, Aesthetics and Budget

We welcome constraints - budgets, site conditions, heritage restrictions - as catalysts for creative, cost-effective solutions that bring your vision to life.

We work with homeowners - families, couples or singles - who want to make that most of what they've got. Sydney's inner-city is our forte: we know how to capture natural light, respect character and heritage, and unlock hidden potential that adds personality and joy to every project

Discover the PandA Architecture Process

At Panda Studio, constraints fuel creativity. Our signature Panda process combines collaborative construction framework with transparent, two-stage tender to save you time and money:

  • Concept and Builder Engagement

We engage your builder early, on the strength of initial sketches and a clear scope of works, to provide open book costings and budget monitoring.

  • Design Refinement and Cost Certainty

Through ongoing collaboration, we refine drawings and specifications, track costs at key milestones, and establish a price ceiling before the final contract.

  • Streamlined Approvals and Construction

A stronger working relationship between client, architect, builder and consultants means fewer surprises on site, faster approvals, and confidence in project viability.

All drawing work is in 3D, using BIM software (Revit), as standard and is included in all fees. White model, rendered images and panoramas are also provided during the process.

AMANDA BYRNE

Studio Director

Certified Passive House Designer 30+ years global experience in high-end residential and sustainable design.

Amanda is the founder and studio director of Panda Studio Architecture. A Registered Architect in NSW and Certified Passive House Designer, she brings over 30 years of experience across the UK, Hong Kong and Australia. Amanda studied at the University of Cambridge and the Kent Institute of Art and Design, graduating with Distinction and receiving a nomination for the RIBA President’s Silver Medal in 2001.

Amanda is originally from the UK and half Malaysian Chinese, quarter English and a quarter Faroese - a heritage that blends Eastern and Western cultures, Amanda is the daughter of a precision engineer (a tribologist and ball bearing expert!) and a former nurse, who met on a fortuitous blind date back in the early ’70s. Their unlikely match shaped her outlook - equal parts technical and compassionate.

Amanda’s work is underpinned by rigorous research, a love of strong conceptual design and meticulous attention to detail – from planning policy right down to the materials. A mother of two, her spare time is eclectic and energetic: think muay thai boxing, kundalini yoga and dancing.

From the outset, Paul and Amanda showed genuine respect for the original features of my home, thoughtfully integrating them into a design that feels both timeless and fresh. They took the time to truly listen to what I wanted to achieve and understood my priorities, helping to shape a home that reflects my lifestyle. Their knowledge of inner west terrace houses was invaluable, they knew exactly how to make the most of the space, ensuring every detail served a purpose. They also brought creative, architectural elements to the design that made the project feel truly unique. Equally important was their strong understanding of the local council and planning rules, which gave me confidence thro...
